- Established in 1642, St. Thomas Manor is the oldest, continuously-operated Jesuit community in the world. St. Ignatius Church on Chapel Point is its pastoral seat. Consisting of more than 4,400 acres of land, the Jesuits exploited enslaved labor to operate a tobacco plantation and leased a substantial portion to tenant farmers.
